Leena has been in love with her boss, Nick DeMarco, for almost eight years. But he's never given her any indication that she was special to him. Their relationship was close, but rarely outside of a business function. Excerpt: The shrill beep of the microwave made her jump. Jake rolled his eyes and turned back to the cooking. She hadn’t responded and with the lump in her throat she couldn’t. What would she have said anyway? ‘Sorry I’m with your brother but that kiss melted me, keep trying you’ll find the right girl?’ And then the thought of another girl had her clenching the mug so hard it jerked in her hand and hot liquid slushed over her hand and she cursed.

He turned and his eyes changed immediately. Concern seeped in and pushed the anger and hurt out. He took her hand and guided her to the kitchen sink, kissing the screaming red burn before lowering it under the water.

“You’re almost as clumsy as you are when you’ve had too much champagne Leena.” His mouth was serious but his eyes were smiling. His thumb ran gentle circles over her hand and he let the cool water run over the burn. She knew she should take her hand back, but she didn’t want too. She wasn’t sure if she would ever want to have him not touching her like this again.

Their eyes met and she felt lost in the dark blue depths. Without the ring around them she knew she was staring at Jake, not Nick. She stood there, eyes locked with his as he soothed her burn for almost five minutes. Neither one of the moved.

Jake turned the water off without breaking eye contact, or skin contact. He breathed deeply and that was when the spell broke. She grabbed her hand out his harsher than she’d meant to and his eyes hardened. He took a step back and she saw the tension radiating through his body.

“Jake I’m sorry. I am. I shouldn’t have just sat here just now.”

He poured batter into the pan and she heard the sizzle, but no comment from him. He slammed the batter down onto the counter and turned abruptly.

“What if I’d been first?” His voice was strained, laced with a desperation she wasn’t certain she knew men could have.

“First what Jake?”

“If I’d been here first. If I’d never listened to Nick when he told me not to pursue you, that you didn’t like men like the DeMarco’s.” His words hurt. She’d been putting Nick off of her mind for so long at one point she’d mentioned she would never date a man with a company because they’d never have time for her. So Nick’s warning may not have had anything to do with feelings for her.

Many of you may know (if you see my FB posts) that I am a military spouse. I've been with my hubby since before he was in the service and have been through so much with him because of it. Boot camp, training school, a World Deployment, a South American deployment, an Alaskan Deployment (where he didn't get me any Orca photos might I add lol), and plenty of location changes. In all that time I've slowly immersed myself into military romance. One thing became apparent quickly, USCG romance did not exist. When I saw an anthology call for a military short I jumped at the chance to write an erotic short around his branch, to honor him and give all the men and women spouses at least one story they can relate too. I was fortunate and it was accepted, however the antho didn't happen and I was left with a random story that I wasn't certain what to do with.

When my husband's boat returned home from deployment in early October with so many accolades and achievements, I knew I needed to redo the story, add some more content and simply do it as a short. As I was literally typing up the submission to my wonderful editor my sexy Adam Ayash muse went "Hello....5 military shorts, honor them all in the small way that you can!" Which meant that as I was typing a submission email I had three other branches of service storylines slam into my head. The Marines story is still playing hide and seek but the MC's have made themselves known and named already. And so, the series "In Service" was born. 

I've been fortunate enough to have my editor not only enjoy Sinking Ships, the Coast Guard Romance, but accepted the idea for the full series. So throughout the next two years, as close to Vet's Day and Memorial Day as the calendar would allow I've got some steamy military shorts to bring to you all! I'm so excited to be doing this series; despite what it may seem I'm not the biggest contemporary writer so to have found these stories is a wonderful way for me to give just a small bit of thanks to the men and women who serve, not to mention the families that are just as much a part of the service as well.

While I've got dates for all the ebooks and the boxed set (Which just may have a little something extra in it if I can get the muse on board) I'm going to wait a little to announce the official release dates under the "My Work" section of the site. The reason you ask? Well I don't have a title for the Marine story yet as the plot is only halfway shown to me so I want to put my muse to the test the next few days and see if I can't get the whole plot and a title before I release the dates.

Thank you to all the men and women who serve and the families that wait behind for them. For the unknown heroes who do the work in the background - caring for kids, taking care of the house, making sure nothing falls apart during deployment - these romances are for you just as much as the active duty personnel.

Eliza Kempe Dorley is always left in the background. As a female, being top inventor for the Alliance of Silver and Steam has as many draw backs as perks. She’s in charge of the creation of the many tools the Alliance uses in pursuit of the demons that run lose in the London Underground, which means without her, the demons would be harder to put down. But when he’s ordered to attack the group that hunts his kind he’s enthralled by the feisty inventor he comes upon.

Eliza’s victim to Lucius in a way no others have been, a sensual dream that she can’t shake when she wakes up. When he bumps into her at the trains she’s an addiction he can’t shake. When he outright disobeys the demon who controls him for some out of dreams interactions with the Eliza, it will be up to him to save her from the nightmare he’s put her in.

Excerpt: “I cannot do that Eliza. You lot wish to eradicate demons from the face of the earth and we have been around, just as you and every animal, for a purpose. I had every intention of sending her in circles, throwing her plans off and alerting The Alliance so they could handle it. But I will not aid in the destruction of my species as a whole.”

Her heart broke. They did need to reevaluate something but one thing was certain. If he would allow the creature to exist that was behind this, would protect her even, there was nothing left for them. She looked at the carpet, stained a vicious red from her blood and nausea swept through her. “Then you need to leave Lucius.”

“No. I will make you understand, I’m not leaving you.”

She was eerily calm as she looked up at him. “Yes Lucius you are. You crossed a line and showed me who you really are, deep down. But I’ve seen another side of you. A side that deserves to live, despite it all, because I choose to believe you will only harm those you have too until you can find a way out. I don’t even know if you will find away out. But the demon that I love would.” She hadn’t realized that she did love him until the words came out. It was natural really, that she’d finally found someone who was good for her, who made her happy and he would be a demon with a past too dark and corrupt to change.

“I love you Eliza. You have to believe me.” He sounded so different, pathetic even.

“ I do Lucius. I do not doubt anything you’ve told me. But I cannot be with you and the Alliance is coming, at least I have to hope they will be coming soon because I don’t think I will last much longer. You need to get out. You need to make sure that you keep on living. For me.” She wanted to kiss him, just one last time but she didn’t.

“Eliza I-“

“Get out. Get out now Lucius!” She shouted as best as she could and she closed her eyes, the urge to sleep was overwhelming now. She felt a shift in the room and heard him turning. Whether or not he would actually leave she’d never know. With her eyes closed her brain took over and she breathed in deeply as she surrendered to unconsciousness.

I'm so excited to share with you all that my tiny leaps into the world of contemporary romance keep growing! I've had the honor of being accepted into the anthology, Virtuality, by Hot Ink Press. Lust goes digital in this steamy anthology and aside from my own I've read one of the other stories and I can tell you this will be H-O-T!

When the submissions call for this was initially posted I was automatically drooling. However, I felt there was no way I could pull it off. Most of you know, I don't do contemporary. It just doesn't flow as easily for me because I love pulling off the larger than life plots and worlds. So I secretly drooled over it and filed it away. Then one day I was speaking with the lovely Felicia Fox and the antho came up. Felicia, being the fantastic doll that she is, was willing to sit down and bounce ideas with me to get the juices going.

After a horrible joke where a computer demon messed up dating files Cyber Room was born. Sadly, the pesky demon had no place in the story because he was honestly meant to be a joke. But between him and Felicia, Cyber Room Inc was born.

Wayne Carey- "A life-long fan of science fiction, Wayne Carey grew up reading H.G. Wells, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Isaac Asimov, and all the grand masters of the genre, guiding him toward a career in science with degrees in biology and education and providing the desire to write from an early age. A love of classic and noire films, such as Casablanca and the Maltese Falcon, also influences his writing. He and his wife Brenda live in the wilds of Central Pennsylvania with their three children, who provide a great deal of inspiration for his work."

Michael Cross- Michael Cross has been a writer and amateur explorer for most of his life. He began submitting his original writing in 2013 with two short stories, Tell Her She was Loved and The Promise, both accepted by Xchyler Publishing and are due to be released early 2014 in anthologies. Most recently he is a blogger and works to share his love of the past and all things steampunk (whenever he is not working as a shrink). SJ Davis- SJ Davis is the daughter of an ex-patriate British mother and a Southern Baptist ex-CIA father. As a child, she spoke in silly accents and recounted outlandish tales of fantasy over afternoon tea and to this day it remains her favorite activity. Born in Long Island, NY, she was raised in the suburbs of Washington DC and went to school for a very long time (University of Virginia and George Mason University), married an all-around wonderful man, had two kids (smart, funny, full of opinions), moved from Virginia to New Jersey to Philadelphia to Chicago to Detroit, and began her writing career. She is a believer in passionate romance and love at first sight, an avid tea drinker, a stiletto aficionado, Doc Marten worshipper, punk rock listener, and lover of flip flops and cardigans. She has a terrible sense of direction, loves Twizzlers, and is a Johnny Depp fangirl.

Aubrey Diamant -  Aubrey Diamant is one half of the writing team Diamant, known for the "Night Boys" series. Living by night a crazy hotel night auditor when left to his own devices have led to some funny stories. Gender non conformist, LGBTQ activist, artist,NightLife Boy, wig aficionado, wearer of nail varnish, costume maker, former comic book writer and devout Pethead. He is a pretty boy at large; sometimes he does manage to write a book or two.

K.C. Finn- Born in South Wales to Raymond and Jennifer Finn, Kimberley Charlotte Elisabeth Finn (known to readers as K.C., otherwise it'd be too much of a mouthful) was one of those corny little kids who always wanted to be a writer. She was also incredibly stubborn, and so she finally achieved that dream in 2013 with the release of the four-part Caecilius Rex saga, the time travel adventure The Secret Star and her new 2014 young adult series SYNSK, with Clean Teen Publishing.

Eada Janes- Born and raised in the wonderful St. Louis, Mo area. Eada Janes is a hometown girl at heart. You can find her walking by the banks of the mighty Mississippi river, dancing the night away at the local clubs, or snuggled up in front of her fire with a good book and a cup of warm cocoa. After graduating with a degree in fine arts and working in the corporate world of retail for many years, she has decided to return to her creative roots and brave a brand new start as an independent author. Jeannette Joyal-Jeannette Joyal lives in North Carolina with her husband for the last 14 years. Samantha Ketteman- Samantha Ketteman has resided in southern Illinois for 7 years, (though still claims to be an Alabama girl), with her husband and three crazy demon children. Patterson- Beth Patterson was a full-time musician for over two decades before sidestepping into the world of writing (a process she describes as “fleeing the circus to join the zoo”).  Patterson has played in over a dozen countries across the Americas, Europe, Japan, and Australia. She appears on over a hundred and twenty albums (including seven solo albums of her own) in addition to a smattering of soundtracks, videos, commercials, and voice-overs. Various artists have recorded over a hundred of her compositions and co-writes. She studied ethnomusicology at University College Cork, Ireland and holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from Loyola University New Orleans.

Monica Reents- Monica Reents was born and raised in Kansas. She lives with her husband, four children, and one spoiled dog. Her background is in the health field and in criminal justice. Hello everyone!! So sorry I've been missing in action for a little bit! I've had a such a busy summer with writing and promo creation that I haven't had a chance to check in with you amazing people. Hopefully all the goodies I'm about to share in this post will make up for me being MIA!

So just what have I spent my summer doing? Irish Sweets. Nightmare in Steam. Assistant's Christmas Wish. Stormling's Invention. Bite of Silver. I've had a ton of writing projects. Aside from that I have covers to reveal and video's to show off as well of course! So without further ado...let's begin!

My steampunk journey is in high gear as I've fallen head over heels in love with this genre. The Stormling's Invention (Book 1 of Stormling chronicles) is included in the anthology Cogs in Time 2! It's a nice switch for me to take the focus off the romance which I did in this story. Hopefully you will get to experience all three parts in upcoming Cogs in Time antho's but for know - there's certainly this one!

I'm also pleased to share that I have a contemporary piece including in the November anthology, Naughty Bedtime Stories: First Taste. My story is a steamy romance with an American pastry chef and a sexy Irish Interpol Agent.

Aside from all that goodness my muse has been working in overdrive coming up with future story ideas and outlines. There's more steampunk and contemporary standalone's coming plus some amazingly fun PNR romance series and even a little trip to The Round Table. Now there's no telling when these will be written but it's always fun to tease what's on he horizon!

So I've created a street team :) For anyone that doesn't know a street team is a valuable tool to authors and readers. On the author's side of things it gets them marketing opportunities and hopefully, guaranteed readers. So I said I had some absolutely big news regarding releases! The first is that I have had a Christmas trilogy signed to the wonderful Hot Ink Press. But that's not the only thing! It's been a little less than two weeks since Torn Between Two Worlds made it's debut into the world. I still can't completely wrap my head around it. Not on the fact that it's published, and not on the fact at how well it appears to be doing. Being with a small press I can ask to see numbers, but I can't just simply see them. 

So how can I tell it's selling? My sales rank. I've developed a pattern. Mornings  chill around 80-90k. Afternoons I get nice and cozy between 42k-54k and then at night it sinks to around 80-90 again. Why yes, I was screenshot happy when I ranked internationally and even when I was just rising and falling over and over again in America. So I figure, why not take a looksie. I had the pleasure and fortune to rank (even if just for an hour lol) in Canada, UK, Australia and America.

The next step is getting reviews to come in so I had hit the ground hard on promo. I've got 3 amazing reviews but 95% of  the promo sites require 10; and typically ten 5-star ones as well. So I'm looking for reviews! Whether you loved it or hated it, 1-star or 5-stars, please leave a review! And if you haven't grabbed your copy...well, what are you waiting for?
